Asbestos, bonded in cement or resin matrix and in good condition should cause very little concern to anybody. In this state it would be "doing it's job" in providing tough thermal and acid resistant insulation with high water resistance and excellent stamina.

If the matrix breaks down, or the product is subject to breakage (vandalism, wear & tear, etc) or, most importantly, the product is worked on (drilling, sawing, etc.) then the situation is completely different.

When the above situations take place asbestos fibres become airborne and because of their microscopic size they remain in the air for some time. It is at this stage that asbestos may affect not only you, but has the ability to affect others in the workplace and maybe even other people outside your place of work.
